Specialized Propero Helmet

On Saturday I noticed that my cycling helmet of almost two years was starting to get that unpleasant funky smell that most helmets eventually get just before they dye. So, I decided that maybe I'd take the padding out and wash it and then put it back in to try and increase the number of days it could be used. Unfortunately, when I tried to take the pad right smack dab in the middle of the front out it self destructed. So I figured it was a sign that I needed to replace the helmet. Heck it had served me well for two years.

So, that afternoon I picked up a new helmet. My previous helmet was made by Bell but this time I decided I'd try a new product. I decided this because even though the bell fit well it had a tendency to collect sweat on long rides and then in one swift swoosh all the sweat would roll over my glasses. This usually occurred on long ascents which of course would mean I'd have blurry glasses for the nice long descent on the other side of the climb.

I noticed that my brother had been using a Specialized helmet and liked the front vent. I figured such a vent would most likely reduce the amount of sweat that was accumulating in front of the helmet. If so that would solve my issues with the blurry glasses. So, I purchased the Specialized Propero seen below.

The helmet came with a visor that can be removed. I tend to not wear a visor unless it is raining so I'm keeping it off for now. I used the helmet today for the first time and so far so good. I didn't have any excess sweat and to be honest my cap that I wear under the helmet was nearly dry after a 30 mile ride. Pretty good considering the high today was nearly 90 degrees in Sacramento. I'm looking forward to using the helmet on longer days to see how it works out.
